Santa found some of these more challenging to get than others, but he has fond memories of all of them.

Adventure was an easy challenge for Santa - after all, driving a flying sleigh is pretty adventurous, and he loves being outdoors - all that skiing, snowshoeing, sledging and skating! He is an expert at preparing and packing for his activities and for his hike he has decided to count the terrible time in 2012 when he and the reindeer ran into a particularly bad blizzard on the way back from present delivering. He had to land and walk back home.

Outdoors was mostly easy. It has to be said that Santa is a big fan of his cosy Christmas house, and he likes to come home to a roaring fire at the end of the day, but when he needs new reindeer he goes to visit the Sami people, who are reindeer herders. Traditionally they move from place to place, living in their lavvu tent, which is like a tipi. You can see some information about the Sami and their reindeer here

Santa had to be very brave and determined to earn his Personal Challenge. He has never really liked heights, but the only way to get all the presents delivered is to use the amazing flying sleigh, and then there's all the climbing around on roofs and chimneys! Over the years he has faced up to his fears, and now it really doesn't bother him at all.

There's no denying that Santa's got skills! He enjoys trying out new winter sports - curling is his latest enthusiasm. He has to stay fit and healthy to ensure he is ready for his marathon delivery around the world, carrying all those presents, and he's learned a lot about healthy eating over the years - although he does still rather like a mince pie! There's no denying his creativity - all those toy designs, and anyone who can manage to co-ordinate all those deliveries on Christmas Eve can definitely do problem solving.

Santa always does his best, he is interested in different festive traditions around the world, and he has an ongoing Project to bring Christmas joy to children around the world. He is very concerned about the environment and global warming - he does live in the Arctic after all and he is worried about the ice melting. What will happen to the polar bears?
To relax, Santa likes nothing better than celebrating other festivals around the world, since Christmas is rather busy. |
