Uppermill Advent is a life-sized Advent calendar in the windows of homes, businesses and churches all around Uppermill.
Just like any other Advent calendar, one window is ‘opened” each day from December 1st to 24th. Many of this year’s windows are linked to the theme of Peace at Christmas, to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War 1. The map overleaf shows you where to find each window. We try to use Uppermill Advent to spread some Christmas cheer, and this year we would also like to invite you to support Oldham Foodbank. Throughout the period of the calendar, donations can be dropped at 2 Saddleworth Fold (our second window), either in the porch or in the tin box outside. All of the windows should be lit from 4 to 9pm each evening from their start date until Twelfth Night however, please be aware that we cannot guarantee this as household circumstances may change. Uppermill is known for its narrow roads and pavements, please take care as you go round the Advent Calendar. If you plan to drive round please note that it is not feasible to drive into Saddleworth Fold or up Abels Lane. Also there is a footpath (no roadway) linking the two parts of Springmeadow Lane. We are delighted to be joined by a window up in Pobgreen this year. Please note this is up narrow lanes and is probably best approached on foot but it is a bit steep and you’ll need a torch. We are very grateful to everyone who takes part and creates a window. The emphasis of the Uppermill Advent is to encourage everyone to have fun and join in. We are always happy to see returning regulars, would love to hear from anyone interested in getting involved. We hope you enjoy our 2018 Uppermill Advent. Please use our website, Facebook or Twitter to let us know if you have visited our calendar. |
