Community Challenge award

21/9/2011

We are delighted to have been assisted by members of our local police force to get our Community Challenge award off the ground. Following on from an interesting talk by PCSO's Lorna Conway and Lee Lockwood about their role in and with the community, the Scouts have been asked to identify issues that they believe exist in our community and come up with some ideas as to how those issues can be tackled and what they would need to do that.

Each of the 4 patrols has been asked to come up with an issue, their suggestions about how to tackle it and what they would need to do that. The more detail that can be given, the better the activities that can be organised will be.

It is hoped that this can dovetail with further direct work in the community that can be agreed in partnership with PCSO's Conway and Lockwood.

Please post your responses below by clicking on the Comments button above.

If you need to access another copy of the activity sheet that was handed out this week, that is available by clicking here

The issue that our patrol has chosen is Littering. We believe that littering makes our community look scruffy and hurt the wildlife in our area. It can also pollute water and air. The solution to this problemis having more litter bins around the area and having new signs put up baring the slogan 'NO LITTERING'. This would tell people that littering will not be tolerated in the area.

As a six we could go litter picking on and around the high street and tell people not to litter and how it effects the community.

I'm a member of Eagle patrol and think the chewing gum bins that we saw whilst on holiday in wales are a great idea. www.gummybin.com
