It was the Beavers’ turn to be adventurous when 7 of them came away with Freya and me to the Oldham Borough District Sleepover at Fylde Scouts Activity Centre. The Beavers had a great time, playing games and tackling new challenges, and for many it was the first time they had gone away like this without family. With all the excitement it was about midnight before the last Beaver was asleep, and 5.30 when the first one was awake - this seems to be about standard for Beavers - I have to say, Scouts sleep better!
We have been making the most of better weather this term and been out to play some games in the park, and we were also glad of good weather when all 3 sections went out to deliver Christian Aid envelopes for the streets covered by UMC collectors, just one of the ways that our group tries to help others and get involved in different projects.
For our last meeting this half term, the Scouts had a First Aid training session with Carl from Tailored Training - it was really useful, and we’re looking forward to seeing him return for some more training in June.
Our group slowly continues to grow - we now have 17 Beavers, 21 Cubs and 14 Scouts, with 8 other young people joining us each week as Young Leaders. There is a buoyant demand for Scouting and all that it can offer young people, and our projected numbers are set to rise. This may well be exacerbated by the fact that Diggle no longer has a Cubs section and there is not currently any Scouting in Delph. So, to cut to the chase, we are looking for people who can help us continue to offer our range of opportunities, across all 3 of our sections - Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. It doesn’t have to be every week, but perhaps you could join one of our section teams, to help on an occasional basis.
