Our Beavers and Cubs sections are ably supported by five Young Leaders. Our newest recruit has joined us as part of his volunteering for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, and indeed our others originally joined us that way although they have enjoyed themselves so much that they have stayed after the volunteering requirement was finished! We are looking forward to welcoming some of our own Scouts into the ranks of Young Leaders in January. Who knows, in years to come they may even join Tom and Anthony in becoming Leaders. However, in the shorter term we are still looking for more people who would like to join our team of helpers in any of the sections on a regular or occasional basis. With the number of Scouts that we have now, Methodist safeguarding requirements mean that we will occasionally need a third person who can be present if one of the leaders can't make it, so we are very grateful to the 2 members of church who have volunteered to be on our "hit list." If you would be interested in any of these rôles please speak to Erica or Rachel.
Our next big projects are the Christmas Fair, which will be held at UMC on Saturday 5th December. We will have soup, tea, coffee and other refreshments, as well as hand-made cards and decorations for sale. We will also be selling the special stamps for Uppermill ScoutPost. This is a new venture for us. Our stamps cost just £1 for four, and cards can be posted in the purple collection box at church or in some of the village shops, including Authentic, All Wrapped Up, Copyright, The Millyard Gallery, and the Reclamation Rooms.
As in previous years, the first window in the Uppermill Advent Calendar, has been decorated by the Beavers. Maps so that you can find all of this year's windows will be available at the beginning of December, from the Methodist Centre, or downloaded from the website uppermilladvent.wordpress.com
